HIV and Other TTI Testing Proficiency Training
for Blood Service Facilities - REFRESHER COURSE

Course Description

Medical Technologists for Blood Service Facilities (BSF) who are proficient in HIV and other Transfusion Transmissible Infections have certificates that expire every after three years. To ensure that technicians are kept abreast with updates to testing guidelines and policies, they are required to complete a refresher course to renew the validity of their proficiency.

The training (to be provided via Online platform) consists of lectures, video presentation and interactive group discussions designed to review basic principles and updates on HIV and other TTI screening. Participants who have completed the one-day training course with its corresponding examination will receive a renewed Certificate of Proficiency.

The participants will be granted a written practical examination and completion of the panel testing. Participants will be given a Certificate of Proficiency if the have passed a grade of 75% for their overall assessment. In case of failure, a Certificate of Attendance will be given.

Objectives

At the end of this 1-day refresher course, each HIV proficient Medical Technologist will be updated and reviewed on the principles and policies related to HIV and other TTI testing and screening:

  • Discuss new updates in testing for HIV and other TTI
  • Discuss important data in HIV and other TTI epidemiology
  • Discuss the testing algorithm in screening blood units
  • Discuss pertinent policies in relation to blood safety
  • Enumerate updates in the RITM referral system
  • Discuss good manufacturing principles in blood service facilities
  • Analyze EQAS results
  • Analyze blood screening cases

Admission Requirements:
  • Accomplished Online Registration Form
  • BSF Certificate of Inclusions issued for year 2025
  • BSF Licensed to Operate issued for year 2025
  • Participants valid PRC ID
  • Endorsement Letter from Pathology Head of Head of the agency certifying that the applicant is practicing Medical Technologist in the laboratory and that the training fee shall be shouldered by the management and not by the participant.
